Hang An Eyelet Curtain

by James Halpert

In the past, curtains were used simply as a means for creating privacy in the home and blocking out the early morning light in the bedroom. In today’s more style-conscious society a change has taken place where curtains are now a big part in setting the tone of a room. One of the new and fashionable types of curtains is the eyelet curtain.

Eyelet curtains have become increasingly popular due to the ease in which they can be hung on the curtain rod as well as the lines that are formed while they are hanging. They are uncomplicated yet they look stylish thanks to the natural fall of the fabric.

The name of the curtains also describes the method used in hanging them. Instead of relying on curtain hooks sewn into the upper seam of the curtains that are then threaded onto a curtain rail, the metal eyelets are punched straight into the fabric and reinforced with stitched surrounds. Hanging the curtains is as simple as slipping them onto the curtain rod.

The nature of the eyelets solves one of the common problems that constantly plague the older style of curtain hooks where the curtains keep getting stuck when trying to open and close them by hand. The curtain eyelets allow the curtain to run smoothly backward and forward making it simple to open or close them.

Similarly, the way in which the curtains are threaded onto the curtain rod allows the material to fall in straight pencil pleats that form smooth lines from the top to the bottom. This kind of look makes eyelet curtains a natural backdrop for the rest of the room. They are not overpowering in the patterns that are formed and so they work well in complementing the furniture that takes center stage.

Making eyelet curtains is a simple matter too for someone who is handy with a sewing machine. The reason for this is that you aren’t encumbered with the trouble of worrying too much about the way in which it will be attached to the curtain rod. The rings used as the hanging mechanism are simply punched into the completed curtains and as long as they are accurately measured, can be added relatively quickly.

No matter whether you but them ready made or make them yourself, eyelet curtains are a fashionable solution to dress a window. They can be made in a variety of material types from light and breezy cotton to more formal, heavier fabrics such as velvet. They are elegant curtains that should give you a minimum of trouble once they have been hung.
